The title of this exhibition jumped into my head as we swept the pieces of paint and plaster that had fallen from the ceiling at St Paul’s and when I was thinking about how I could try to raise funds for its repair: an exhibition in the Church with an umbrella for your protection!

I have spent almost a year, starting in October 2024 producing a selection of pictures, oils and acrylics. At the point of writing this article, I am completing the penultimate picture.

I was asked a few months ago, “Is there a theme?” I was a little stumped as to how to answer as there is and there isn’t. If all the pictures were on one theme, only those interested in that theme might buy a picture (or know someone who would like one as a gift), however, as an exhibition from one artist, and with all my previous exhibitions having had a central theme, I knew these pictures had to be connected.

So yes, they are all connected in what I think is an attractive way, but I will say no more, you will just have to come and see!

Bring Your Own Umbrella — Exhibition & Silent Auction

Esholt Memorial Hall, 4 Main Street, Esholt Shipley. BD17 7QZ.

You’ll have noticed that it’s not in the church, although it is worth you going to look at some of what needs doing; I decided having refreshments available would be a good idea.

Of the approximately £90,000 we need for the Primary Phase repairs – Heating, Lighting and Ceiling, we have almost £45,000 so far. We are applying for more grants, but so are many other people. As a community we need to show that we are committed to saving our Parish Church at Esholt. Father David has said, “St Paul’s Church has been at the heart of the community for decades, supporting generations of families through life’s major events. It is vital that we raise the necessary funds so that this beautiful church can once again be a place of prayer, reflection and tranquillity to be enjoyed by all.”

I hope you can come and enjoy the event. I have put a lot of effort into it and look forward to seeing you. I shall not take anything for my expenses from the money raised from the sale of my artwork.
